FMD #15

Additional work has been done on the clothing and the hat. For purposes of casting I needed to make the brim of the hat thicker. To create the illusion of a thinner hat the brim is then tapered down to the outer edge. At this scale the drop earrings were also nixed do to casting issues. On a full size sculpture drop earrings would be problematic at best but at this size they would be a real issue for casting as the metal or the cast stone medium would have difficulty flowing into the mold and it would always be fragile and prone to breakage. Such are the limitations of the medium.

Below is a 2:46min clip sculpting video. It is challenging getting any video or photos done well at this small size as I tend to have my head or hands in the way of the camera while working. When working at a larger scale it will be easier to give photos and video of the work in progress. I’ll let the sculpture rest for a few days while I start on the armatures for both the full-body maquettes and the life size portrait.

The life-size portrait will be sculpted without the hat as it is more for anatomical practice and reference for when I sculpt the final piece.
